Supervised Toothbrushing Programme
Toothbrushing has two roles, the removal of plaque bacteria and as a means of applying fluoride toothpaste to teeth. The focus of a supervised toothbrushing programme within a setting is primarily aimed at the application of fluoride. Brushing with a suitable strength fluoride toothpaste is an effective way of helping to prevent tooth decay. The establishment of a daily supervised toothbrushing programme in a setting is designed to be an integral part of a child's daily routine. The programme helps provide children with valuable life skills and helps improve oral health. It is not designed to be a substitute for toothbrushing at home, but as an additional opportunity to apply fluoride toothpaste.
