At Healthbox we receive charitable, NHS and local authority funding to deliver our community-based activity. This page gives an overview of our current and recent projects. We are very grateful to our funders for enabling us to provide so much free access to health promotion activities, services and support, to schools, families and communities.

All of our work takes a holistic approach to wellbeing, where we adapt delivery and content to suit the group we are working with. With project work for ages 0-90+, we put fun, quality provision and accessibility at the heart of all we do.

ACTIVE TRAVEL PROJECT: ELLESMERE PORT

Active Travel: Ellesmere Port

Healthbox CIC's Active Travel Project in Ellesmere Port is a dynamic 12-month initiative that addresses community health and wellbeing holistically. It seamlessly intertwines Active Travel objectives with the principles of social prescribing to promote physical activity and mental health benefits. By focusing on encouraging active lifestyles and offering affordable transportation options like cycling, the project aims to engage individuals who can benefit the most. It leverages social prescribing to connect people with community resources, addressing a wide range of needs from mental health to social isolation. The project fosters community involvement through wellbeing walks, cycling groups, and educational events, while also providing resources through various channels. A detailed monitoring and evaluation system ensures alignment with goals, and it emphasizes community empowerment through volunteer opportunities and upskilling. Overall, Healthbox CIC's Active Travel Project is a comprehensive initiative seeking to make a sustainable impact on Ellesmere Port's physical and mental wellbeing.

"I've just seen the active travel advert and am really interested in family cycling. I'm not confident at taking my daughter out on my own. I was also looking at the bike repair workshop as my bike is really old and not very well maintained so I'd love to know what I should do to maintain it better. I do cycle where I can rather that use the car so this is a great initiative."

THINKING WELL, FEELING WELL PROJECT: RURAL

Thinking well, Feeling Well Project: Rural
Thinking well, Feeling Well Project: Rural

The Thinking Well Feeling Well: Rural project is an exciting 5-year piece of work funded by the Westminster Foundation.

The project centres around promoting emotional and physical health and wellbeing for children, young people and families living in rural Cheshire West and Chester. In line with the Westminster Foundation’s core objectives, a central theme to the project is around early intervention and building resilience and life skills in our young people.

As part of the project, we are providing designated counselling services for Bishop Heber High School and Tarporley High school alongside an 18-25s counselling service (available via the Rural Alliance Primary Care Network).

We are also working closely with rural feeder primary schools of the two secondary schools, providing a range of class-based and parent/guardian workshops and Mental Health First Aid Youth training for teaching staff.

THINKING WELL, FEELING WELL PROJECT: ELLESMERE PORT

Thinking well, Feeling Well Project: Ellesmere Port

Our Ellesmere Port project funded by the Lottery Community Fund, supports our social prescribing offer for both children and adults and our schools and family activities. The funding also provides our adult counselling offer in the town (non-crisis, lower-level mental health) support and enables and children and young person’s counsellor to work with Ellesmere Port schools for 3 days a week. The project supports the Lottery Community Fund people-led priorities and enables our team to work creatively and have more flexibility and impact.

The help I received from Lizzie was invaluable. She was so caring and such a lovely person helping me get through the many problems I had in 2020. Thanks Lizzie, you went the extra mile for me and I won't forget you!

FEELING GOOD COMMUNITY PROJECT: CHESHIRE

Feeling Good Community Project: Cheshire

Our Steve Morgan Foundation and DCMS supported project has 2 key strands, firstly helping promote the amazing work of local community heroes, both the individuals going above and beyond and the wonderful local organisations and services that have been more needed than ever recently; and  a second family and community delivery element.

To help spread some positivity as well as link people with local support, the funding was used to create videos and social media posts, supporting access to services and feel-good stories during lockdowns and COVID restrictions.

The second strand of the project is currently active and provides school-based and community activities working with our community partners. To enable as many families and children to benefit from the project as we can, we are converting our healthy family activities as well as selected school’s health and wellbeing workshops into digital resources.

SHERBORNE COMMUNITY HUB PROJECT

Sherborne Community Hub Project

Sherborne Community Hub offers gardening clubs for all ages together with a peer-support group for people experiencing social isolation or other personal issues. Children are provided with fun and educational activities to learn how to grow their own plants and create exciting outdoor spaces, with many elements linking back to the national curriculum, whilst adults are offered friendship, a space to talk and support with tackling any issues they are experiencing. Don’t forget the tea and biscuits!

We are extremely grateful to Avanti West Coast who have provided funding to run the project from April 2021 until March 2023, as well as the numerous donations of volunteer time and gifts we have received from other local residents and businesses in Crewe.
