Oral Health

From early years supervised toothbrushing schemes to parent champion workshops and youth group sessions, our initiatives aim to support healthier smiles across Cheshire and Merseyside.

Supervised Toothbrushing across Cheshire and Merseyside with All Together Smiling

We are so pleased to be working with the All Together Smiling Team at Beyond (NHS Cheshire and Merseyside) to provide Supervised Toothbrushing Training for eligible early years settings, child minders and schools across the 9 boroughs.

The free training is being rolled out to schools and early years providers in selected areas, where families are facing higher levels of disadvantage.

Sarah and Liz, our oral health duo, will be delivering digital, group online workshops and face-to-face training to support schools and nurseries to implement a supervised toothbrushing scheme for children aged 2-7 years.

Supervised toothbrushing is usually a classed-based activity where the children have a set time each day to brush their teeth. This additional brushing helps not only strengthen and protect younger children’s teeth but also helps embed positive oral hygiene habits to support the children as they grow.

The training supplied links directly to the All Together Smiling Delivery manual, while supporting settings in key oral health messages for children and their families.  Participating settings will receive the resources needed to implement the programme including, Brush Buses, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Children will also receive toothbrushing packs to take home as part of the All Together Smiling Project.

Eligible settings are contacted directly by their local council to register their interest.

Oral Health Parent Champions

CHESHIRE WEST & CHESTER

We are currently working with Cheshire West and Chester Council to help establish a parent champion project for promoting positive oral health messages in the borough.

We all know oral hygiene is important, but sometimes that’s easier said than done with children! This project provides some peer-based workshops and helps collect parent/ carer top tips and ideas and help keep little ones brushing their teeth alongside information about tooth healthy snacks. We want to help spread positive oral hygiene messages and have some mini workshops and resources packs for any parents, carers, guardians or grandparents wanting to help! We are very keen to hear the voices of parents and carers of children with SEND to help to create a toothbrushing resource for any families struggling with sensory or physical challenges that can make tooth brushing difficult.

We are excited to say we will be initially working with William Stockton Primary School, Lache Primary and Dorin Park School and specialist SEN college to start this project.

If you are interested in becoming an Oral Health Champion in your child’s preschool or school, please get in touch!

Oral Health: Youth Group Workshops
CHESHIRE WEST & CHESTER

We are excited to soon be working with the Cheshire West and Chester Youth Group to offer some oral hygiene workshops and activities across the summer from young people aged 11 upwards.  We’ll be covering everything from effective toothbrushing, diet and sugars, protecting your smile in contact sports, to smoking and vaping and accessing the dentist.

All participating young people will get a toothbrushing goodie bag provided through the project.
