Our Net Zero Commitment

Healthbox CIC is committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at the latest across our operations and relevant value chain, covering Scope 1, Scope 2 and relevant Scope 3 emissions.

  • Scope 1 direct emissions: We will identify fuel use and other direct emissions from buildings, vehicles and equipment that we own or control, where applicable.

  • Scope 2 purchased energy: We will monitor purchased electricity and other energy within our reporting boundary, improve energy efficiency and work with landlords and suppliers to understand consumption and explore lower-carbon options.

  • Scope 3 travel, purchasing and wider operations: We will prioritise business mileage, employee commuting, purchased goods and services, digital services and waste. We will improve information collection and engage suppliers and delivery partners as our baseline develops.

As a community interest company, we recognise the relationship between environmental sustainability, health and wellbeing. Our environmental policy guides practical action to reduce avoidable travel, energy use, waste and unnecessary purchasing while maintaining safe, accessible community services.

We will plan local appointments and use shared community venues to reduce unnecessary journeys. Telephone and video support will be offered where appropriate to individual needs. Essential car travel will remain necessary for some locations and participants; we will reduce avoidable mileage and review lower-emission options over time without restricting access to support.

We will use equipment and materials responsibly, consider repair and reuse before replacement, reduce unnecessary printing and packaging, and work with staff, landlords and suppliers on feasible improvements. Safety, infection prevention and accessibility will remain central to purchasing and delivery decisions.

We will establish an organisational emissions baseline for 2026/27 using available records, identifying estimates and data gaps openly. By September 2027, we will publish our initial findings, quantified interim reduction targets and priority actions. Any necessary change to the baseline period, and the reason for it, will be recorded in our published net zero plan. We will review progress annually, update our action plan and amend our environmental policy where appropriate.

Our priority is to reduce emissions substantially. Healthbox CIC will prioritise reducing emissions through practical changes to energy use, travel, purchasing and waste, recognising the limits of our control over rented premises.

As we progress towards our 2050 net zero target, we will review options for addressing emissions that remain after substantial reductions. Any carbon removals used to balance these residual emissions will be independently verified and transparently reported. They will complement, rather than replace, reductions in our own emissions.

The Board of Directors will oversee this commitment through quarterly management checks and annual review.
