This summer, as part of The Wellbeing High Street big lottery funded project we have been involved in running the ‘Summer of Fun’ in partnership with Edsential and local community groups. This was partly funded by The Department of Education, with Cheshire West being one of the lucky areas to be awarded summer scheme money. Each week, a variety of free activities and events have been running for local families with children living in the Ellesmere Port area.
The activities have proved a great success, and been a brilliant way to support our local voluntary groups. We have had a day trip to Castle Park in Frodsham on a nature treasure hunt, a community carnival at Whitby Park as well as working with Messy Mischief Makers to run breakfast clubs, arts and crafts and messy play. Additionally, we have been working with Milestone Mums to run weekly family days involving beach parties and pizza making along with a dance summer school with Evolution Dance Academy. Each ‘Summer of Fun’ event involved a free and nutritious meal for the children to enjoy and fuel them for their next activity.
As well as being busy in Ellesmere Port, we have been working with Blacon Educational Village and the 5 Blacon Primary Schools to support their summer play scheme. Each week we have delivered food education workshops with children attending holiday clubs at their school. The workshops have included healthy cookery, arts and crafts and yoga by Sarah’s Yoga Warriors which has been thoroughly enjoyed by the children.
Here are some pictures of the activities that ran over the 4 weeks.
We would like to say a big thank you to all of our partners that worked with us on this programme and to all attendees that came long to enjoy the activities.
