In 2016 it was found by The Department of Education that 10% of 5-16 year old pupils experienced a mental health issue. In light of the evidence that children do not always receive the support that they need, as quickly as they should, Healthbox CIC will be offering 1-2-1 counselling to children referred by a parent or teacher with the aim of reducing potential barriers to education. Pupils will receive a counselling session once a week on the school premises.
What do the counselling sessions involve?
Each child will be allocated a fully qualified MBACP Counsellor. The duration of the session will be 40 minutes once a week in an allocated private room within the school premises. The counsellor and child will explore any difficulties that the child is experiencing, this can be achieved with the use of a range of creative resources to allow the child to express themselves in an appropriate manner for the age of that child.
How to refer a child?
A child can be referred to our counselling service via their school staff.
Prices available upon request.
We enlisted in the support of Healthbox CIC when we felt that some of our pupils, who have profound emotional needs would benefit additional support. Laura, one of the companies counsellors is friendly positive and engaging and really gets to know the child on a personal level. Laura has even attended school performances to support the children she works with. She has also delivered transition sessions for children that have left school and moved to another.

Parents come to me as their child’s headteacher desperately looking for help and support. The services at Healthbox CIC have been invaluable to both child, parent, school and community.
The counsellors are generous with their time and skills, in that they have shared their approaches, techniques and impact with the pupils, thus supporting staff at school to be able to continue the positive work in a consistent manner.
