Over the past few months we have been working towards delivering oral healthcare training to care staff in Cheshire West and Chester. The project is a Health Education England Initiative and funded by West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). The aim of this project is to improve oral health in the residents of care homes, because by improving oral health we can improve residents general health.
The training works on a ‘train the trainer’ concept, whereby we train members to staff to become their home Mouth Care Champion. Following the training, we provide ongoing support to the appointed champions to train their colleagues to ensure that oral health is of high priority in a residents day to day healthcare regime.
So far we delivering 2 training days which have been well attended with more than 15 homes in the Cheshire West and Chester area represented at the training by their staff. We will be running one more training day on Wednesday 27th March 2019 to then be followed by additional training once the homes have appointed their champions.
We have received some great feedback from attendees;
“Very knowledgeable, learnt a lot”
“Excellent Day – Great for raising awareness”
“Very good course and trainers”
100% of attendees said they would recommend the training to their colleagues.
