Community Development

Community Development

Working alongside the Cheshire East Council Communities team our Community Development Officers support the Voluntary, Community and Faith sector in Crewe and Macclesfield.

Led by the Council’s ‘Connected Communities’ strategy, we use an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach to ensure that we work with and by the local community to help set up sustainable local initiatives. Each town has it’s very own Neighbourhood Partnership, a forum for charities, community groups, residents and other organisations to discuss health and wellbeing priorities and partnership working. Recent work initiated through this approach includes community transport schemes, support for people living with dementia, creation of a new youth group, formation of a community cafe, setup of art classes and singing groups and assisting with funding and governance arrangements for grassroots organisations. We aim to build simple and sustainable links between the health and social care sector and local residents, helping to deliver services in the right place and at the right time.
